From politics to food, the last couple of weeks have been busy. Here are a few of my favorites.20080224_versacehelicopter_elk_205.jpg
For those of you who enjoy the finer things in life, like this guy in the mock-up helicopter cabin, Versace is now offering custom helicopters. While they didn’t actually have a full-size helicopter at the Helicopter Association International’s Heli-Expo at the Houston Convention Center they did have a fancy cabin that looks like one of the mini-subway cars at the airport that shuttles one between terminals.

Decisions, decisions…I’m filthy rich, now what color Italian leather do I want inside of my helicopter?

Ohhhhh-bama, Ohhhhhhh-bama. Members of the North Shore Gents step team practice before Michelle Obama speaks at the University of Houston’s University Center, Houston Room Feb. 25, 2008. The team is from North Shore High School.

This reminded me of the time I dyed my hair black and didn’t know to put vasoline around my eyebrows and hairline. I looked like Eddie Munster for a couple of days. This guy obviously knows what he’s doing.

I’m a total newbie at this. I missed the escort to the top of the stage so I had to bum rush to get some crowd interaction of Michelle Obama and her fans. Secret Service wouldn’t let me stand on a chair, but evidentially “hail Mary’s” aren’t illegal. And I’d like to add that after a few experiences of being in close contact with the Secret Service, I have to say I admire their diligence, but what’s with the creepy and cold staring?

Anyone remember the guy on the right?

Lech Walesa, right, is a patient at Methodist Hospital, where he’s being evaluated for a possible heart transplant. Witold J. Lukaszewski, PhD, center, a political science professor at Sam Houston State University, translates for Walesa.

Speaking of walks down memory lane…

20080227_ethelkennedy_elk_022.jpg Ethel Kennedy, widow of Robert F. Kendey and her son Max Kennedy, both center, get ready to speak with campaign volunteers at Obama’s Houston headquarters.

Guess what? Rodeo is here.

Monica Ortiz, left, and Josefina Perez, right, of Mexico en Danzas Grupo Folklorico get dressed before they perform as the city of Houston officially kicks off the start of the rodeo to begin Feb. 29, 2008 from the steps of city hall.

Talk about getting out of one’s comfort zone, I had to shoot some food last Thursday. I had some time though and tried to make some nice pictures of a couple of dishes from cajun-type cookbook.
